ORICA-AIS put two riders in the top five at the Borsele time trial on Friday evening. Ellen Van Dijk (Specialized-lululemon) proved fastest, covering the 19.2 kilometre course in 26'11". Loes Gunnewijk finished 26" behind Van Dijk to take second place. Shara Gillow rounded out the top five with a time of 26'48".

Gunnewijk will captain the team at the EPZ Omloop van Borsele on Saturday. She took a few moments out of her post-race protocol on Friday to tell you about her race against the clock.

Q: Tell us about your effort today.

The time trial was nearly 20 kilometres. There was a lot of wind. We did a recon before the race. I wasn't sure how I would go because I still a little bit of Fl├Ęche Wallonne in my legs. Luckily, I felt better on the bike than off of it.

Our start was delayed because the juniors race ran long, so we started behind schedule. I was pretty motivated to do a good job here, and from the start, I knew I was riding well. There was a girl two minutes in front of me, and I came closer to her throughout the race.

My brother is from this area, and I had him and his girlfriend and my parents in the team car. I could sometimes hear them when I was out on the course, and this gave me extra motivation.

I'm much more satisfied with my time trial here than I was in the EnergieWacht Tour. Overall, I'm happy with second place.

Q: Why did you want to include this time trial in your schedule?

It's really just another opportunity to get in a time trial in a race setting. We can do more in a race than in training. It's good practice for Nationals in June and the team time trial at Worlds in September. Also, I just changed my bike position a little bit, so this was an important test for me with the new position.

Q: How are you feeling about tomorrow?

Well, right now I'm tired, but I know it will be a good race tomorrow. I love this race. It was actually my first real win when I started as a cyclist. It was the first year of this race, in 2002, and it my first big victory. So, it's special for me because of that.

It's also special because my brother and his girlfriend live on the course. I know I'll have supporters out, and I want to do extra well for them.
